For my blog
today, I will cross the world and enter in the Japanese culture. As we all
know, the habits in the Western and Eastern world are not really the same so
when we want to marketer in this hemisphere, and more particular in Japan, we
have to follow their rules.
Imagine you have a company, in Belgium for example. You have a lot of success and you want to expand. First you conquer Europe and then you want to go global. When you do this, you have to be aware of the different cultures around the world. You can’t just implement your vision and rules in any other country in the world.

When you go to Japan to meet with a Japanese venture to present your company,
you have to follow certain rules because you are a guest in their country. It’s
even more important if you have to convince them to sell your
product!
First of all you have to know that Japanese people are very superstitious. For example, you want to create a marketing campaign for your chocolate, this won’t be a big success because they believe that chocolate causes bleedings in your mouth.
When you know your product has a chance to work, you can meet with a Japanese company and try to sell your product.

In Japan, the most important is (mutual) respect. When you greet a businessman, it’s not the habit that you shake hands. You make a deep bow and if you have a lower status than him, you have to make a deeper bow than him. When you’ve done that, you have to hand over your business card. That is extremely important for the Japanese businessman. When you don’t have one, you won’t be taken serious. If you sit in a car, or at a table, everybody has a certain place. If you are lower in status, you have to sit at the least good places. This shows respect and can make or break your deal.
Those are
all little things that you have to know when you enter in another culture.
